Pacific Digital Signs launches interactive kiosk for the new Pacific Aviation Museum

— November 10, 2008

Pacific Digital Signs recently deployed a custom, two-screen Interactive Donor Display for the new Pacific Aviation Museum at Ford Island.

When the Pacific Aviation Museum was originally planning the layout of their lobby, they were faced with an interesting challenge; how to display over 23,000 names of the Founding Donors who have donated money to the museum.

The museum turned to Pacific Digital Signs to create an easy-to-use interactive display for the museum’s lobby that would help them realize their goals “The museum was looking for a unique way to honor thousands of donors that helped make the museum possible, and it had to be easy to maintain; our interactive digital signage was a natural solution.” says Mitchell. Donors can list their name, city, state as well as special dedications to service men, women and loved ones who fought at Pearl Harbor.

At the grand opening, people lined up to take pictures of their names or the names of loved ones on the large display, there were numerous poignant moments when family members located names and reflected on their memories. The display currently features over 23,000 entries and is updated in real-time via the custom-designed software which connects to the company's donor database which is managed by a 3rd party company in Virginia.

The interactive donor board consists of a large 46” NEC LCD display combined with a 15” NEC touch screen. They are powered by a custom application developed by PDS which runs on a standard Dell PC in a back office away from the lobby. “We are very pleased with the results in solving the Pacific Aviation Museum’s unique set of requirements with a turnkey solution that offers flexibility, looks great, and is very easy to use," says Mitchell. “We’ve already had inquiries from other museums looking to add the same donor-targeted value to their locations.”
